Gum Thief Videos

November 2, 2007

Gum ThiefThis afternoon as I walked past the New Books section at the Library, I noticed Douglas Coupland had a new book out: The Gum Thief. I immediately went online to see what the reviews were. Not too bad. So I decided to check it out. When I got home I decided to do a google search on the book to see what else I could find about it. At this point I was sick of playing on Facebook and checking my email. I ended up coming across some fun YouTube videos Douglas Coupland put out to promote the book. They are based on the perspectives of the characters. I never thought of Youtube as being a place for authors to market their books…..but it is and how cool is that?!! Of course, this has probably been going on for quite a while. I’m just behind the whole YouTube curve.

Too busy Facebooking I suppose. ;)

Below are the videos I watched. There are a couple other shorts promoting the same book on Youtube. Maybe it will entice you to borrow the book. Or maybe it will turn you off. Either way. At least you’ll know. It’s definitely not something you could have done years back. Who knew we’d be watching snippets of a book on a computer? Am I the only geek impressed by this stuff?! Anyway. Check em’ out!

This is up there with the Thriller video I posted a while back.

Shrinking Cities News

April 26, 2007

Mitch sent this to jeff today. It’s the Chinese version of Voice of America talking about Shrinking Cities. I don’t know Cantonese Mandarin so I have no idea what is being said, but Mitch is all over this video representin’. Woo woo! Takin’ it to a new level. So refreshing to see.

Talent Show

April 15, 2007

Jeff in the MOCAD Talent Show in Hazel Park (Saturday night) doing what he calls “The Other Wedding Dance.” I apologize for how jumpy the recording is. I didn’t do a very good job recording, but you’ll still enjoy it.

Click on the picture play the video.

After the show was over we stuck around and helped clean up a bit. Here is a video our friend Gina took of Jeff popping balloons at the end of the night. hee hee

Because I’m a huge fan of replacing words with youtube videos when I’m at a loss for words, thought I would share some I’ve recently watched and enjoyed.

Just a heads up, the following video contains PG-13 Language. Just so you aren’t watching it within an ear shot of your boss at work or your mom. ;)

Flickr pics

February 8, 2007

Just got a message inquiring whether our Flickr photos from Shrinking Cities could be used for this article.

How nice:) Glad they could be of some use to promote the show.

*Update*
It occurred to me that I never told you about the Shrinking Cities Exhibit on display at both Cranbrook and MOCAD. Jeff did some posters for the Detroit aspect of the exhibit. I plan on going sometime this weekend. I hear there is a lot, so I may not make it through the whole exhibit.
Can’t wait to take it all in though. I really want to see the Moving Graves video which shows a family moving the coffin of a loved one out of a Detroit cemetary to one in the suburbs. Representative of flight away from the city.

Even the dead seem to leave. :(
