I Believe

April 29, 2007

Received this forward from Jeff’s parents. I’m not usually a big fan of forwards, but they always send us good ones.

I believe -… that just because two people argue, it doesn’t
mean they don’t love each other. And just because they
don’t argue, it doesn’t mean they do.

I believe - … that we don’t have to change friends if we
understand that friends change.

I believe - … that no matter how good a friend is, they’re
going to hurt you every once in a while and you must
forgive them for that.

I believe – … that true friendship continues to grow, even
over the longest distance. Same goes for true love.

I believe – … that you can do something in an instant that
will give you heartache for life.

I believe - … that it’s taking me a long time to become the
person I want to be.

I believe – … that you should always leave loved ones with
loving words. It may be the last time you see them.

I believe – … that you can keep going long after you think
you can’t.

I believe – … that we are responsible for what we do, no
matter how we feel.

I believe – … that either you control your attitude or it
controls you.

I believe- … That heroes are the people who do what has to
be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the
consequences.

I believe – … that money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I believe – … that my best friend and I can do anything or
nothing and have the best time.

I believe – … that sometimes the people you expect to kick
you when you’re down, will be the ones to help you get
back up.

I believe – … that sometimes when I’m angry I have the right
to be angry, but that doesn’t give me the right to be
cruel.

I believe – … that maturity has more to do with what types of
experiences you’ve had and what you’ve learned from
them and less to do with how many birthdays you’ve
celebrated.

I believe -… that it isn’t always enough to be forgiven by
others. Sometimes you have to learn to forgive
yourself.

I believe – … that no matter how bad your heart is broken the
world doesn’t stop for your grief.

I believe – … that our background and circumstances may have
influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who
we become.

I believe – … that you shouldn’t be so eager to find out a
secret. It could change your life forever.

I believe - … two people can look at the exact same thing and
see something totally different.

I believe – … that your life can be changed in a matter of
hours by people who don’t even know you.

I believe - … that even when you think you have no more to
give, when a friend cries out to you -you will find
the strength to help.

I believe – … that credentials on the wall do not make you a
decent human being.

I believe – … that the people you care about most in life are
taken from you too soon.

Shrinking Cities News

April 26, 2007

Mitch sent this to jeff today. It’s the Chinese version of Voice of America talking about Shrinking Cities. I don’t know Cantonese Mandarin so I have no idea what is being said, but Mitch is all over this video representin’. Woo woo! Takin’ it to a new level. So refreshing to see.

Ta Da!!

April 25, 2007

I was going to make two things for the bakesale, but out of pure laziness (and tiredness)…I decided to make only one of the recipes. Because I am trying to cater to everyone I decided to make the Vegan Chocolate Peanut Butter Rice Krispy Treats.

vegan rice krispy treats

I ended up going to two stores looking for vegan chocolate chips; Trader Joe’s and then to Natural Food Patch in Ferndale. Thankfully the second had them. I also purchased a delicious Amy’s Mediterranean Pizza with Cornmeal Crust, some Blue Chips, Hommus, and 1 Burt’s Bees chapstick (in case you were doing an audit).

When I got home and was preparing all of the ingredients, I realized we did not have one of the required ingredients as I previously thought.

“Umm. Jeff. Where’s the Corn Syrup? Please tell me we have corn syrup and it’s just hidden amongst all this other dusty and crusty baking stuff.”

“Nope. Sorry. That’s just not one of those things you stock up on.”

“What do you mean? We have molasses, vanilla extract galore, tons of sugar in the raw, powdered sugar, baking soda from what looks like 1930……but NO CORN SYRUP! Great. Now what am I going to do?”

Just then a lightbulb showed up above my head. I ran to the phone.

“Hi, Autumn.……yeah…..I was wondering……”

I treked on over to her house. Not only did she give me the last of her corn syrup, but she kindly loaned me one of her baking pans after I realized I didn’t have but a measly small brownie pan. I told you…..I don’t cook or bake often.

Everything else came together perfectly. Of course, Jeff was telling me that I cheated, that I didn’t REALLY bake anything. I reminded him how I slaved over the stove for an entire 2 minutes. That the corn syrup and sugar in the raw had to bubble just right. It’s not easy trying to reach the perfect equilibrium of bubbles without burning the stuff….Jeff.

So there! I baked. kinda ;)

Hopefully the treats are edible. I haven’t tried them but they smell delish. I hope people buy some for Relay for Life. I’ll send you all the leftovers if there are some.

Bakesale

April 24, 2007

cupcakes

Okay, does anyone have a good cookie recipe? I need to bake something for Thursday. This week we have been raising money at work (Relay for Life) by having a bakesale. Everyone signed up for one day this week. Kind of funny how we are trying to raise money for cancer research and promote healthy living by selling baked goods, ehh? What else would people buy if we don’t bribe them with sinful goodies? A few of us talked about selling fruit, but thought against it as fruit goes bad faster. I dunno….I still like the idea though. So if anyone has a “healthy” cookie or muffin recipe, I would love to consider it. I was even thinking about bringing in bagels to mix it up a bit. Autumn, do you have a good vegan recipe? There is at least one vegan here at my library and noone ever thinks of her. I’d like to make something for everyone. Nothing too fancy or expensive though. Interns don’t make a lot of money as we all know. ;)

Thanks ahead of time everyone!

Woo Woo! New Template

April 23, 2007

Bear with me as I mess around with a new template. A nice simple design.

Also, please ignore the dates on the different pages. I do not like that they are showing up but am too tired to try and figure out where to go in my files to fix it. I especially do not like the date under the “About” page. Umm…where did 1969 come from?

Last Chance

April 23, 2007

This is the last week I will be accepting donations for Relay for Life. If you are interested in purchasing a Luminaria please contact me before Friday.

I can’t wait to take part in this event. It’s going to be a lot of fun and for a good cause.

The Year of Good News

April 20, 2007

Wow! So I was just signed in to my Myspace account and decided to see how some of my friends were doing, in particular, my cousin Bree. I was geeked to find out she is now engaged. Like “Wow!” She even has a little video of the entire thing, which took place along the Detroit River. I am so happy for my cousin and her now fiancĂ©e. I believe they’ve been together almost as long as Jeff and I, although I can’t remember the exact amount of time. So exciting!! I love good news.

This year has been filled with all kinds of great news about upcoming babies and marriages lemme tell ya! My brother and his girlfriend are expecting their first baby in September, my older sister is expecting her 4th in August and then there are all of the co-workers at my library (about 4) as well as the recent baby announcement from Jeff’s cousin (the one that was just married not too long ago) Julie. Then there are the people I don’t really know but whose blogs I occasionally read (Mihow) who are also expecting. I’m sure there are others I am leaving out….but still. This year has been full of some great news in lieu of such bad lately (as we all know).

I’m so happy for everyone. :) Yay!

Sample Songs

April 17, 2007

So I’m trying to do my final for one of my classes (it’s a take home), but I keep getting sidetracked. In particular, this site which lets you sample music and see what else you may like. I love it! Plus, I can share songs with all of you.

I was just reminiscing my high school days listening to R.E.M. Here’s a sample track from one of my old favorite songs…. World Leader Pretend off the Green Album:

I loved all of R.E.M’s early albums. So many favs. What I was looking for was a sample of some of the songs this guy made me back in high school. He was a hard core R.E.M fan and had all kinds of bootlegged vinyl. The tape he made me included all cover songs; See No Evil, All I have to do is Dream, Paint it Black, etc. I believe he got some of the songs off this album (though I believe he mixed different albums on my tape). It’s hands down, one of my favorite mix tapes. I still listen to it in my car with all the crackle and hiss noises transferred from vinyl. Something that has crossed my mind is how one of these days this favorite tape of mine will stop working and I’ll have to throw it *GASP* away. That and my other favorite mix tapes.

How will I ever let them go you guys??!!! CD’s are just not the same!! They do not consist of the little idiosyncrocies that tapes have; the accidental recording of radio music or another song that used to live on the tape previously but was not all the way erased. I don’t want those things to go away. Ever!

Umm….ok. I did not mean to write this long or this much. Can you feel the procrastinating? Ok……I’m really going to get to my final now. At 9:30 PM.

Wish me luck!!

Surprise Certificate

April 17, 2007

I got one of those big first class envelopes in the mail today. It was from my LIS Program. As I was opening it, I was trying to think what they would be sending me. To my surprise, it was a letter stating;

Enclosed please find your recognition certificate which was presented at the LIS Program Annual Recognition on April 6th, 2007. We regret that you were unable to attend the event.

Congratulations on your achievement.

Sincerely,
Library and Information Science Program

I was like, “huh? what are they talking about?” Then I viewed the certificate and it said it was in appreciation of my service for being the webmaster to one of our student organizations.

“Awwwww………how nice,” I thought.

Wish I had been notified I was to receive a certificate at the Annual Recognition Event. Maybe I could have planned on being there.

Ohh well. I was in Alabama anyway. So nice they consider it an achievement. I just look at it as an opportunity to do what I love. I should be thanking them with a certificate it you ask me. ;)

Talent Show

April 15, 2007

Jeff in the MOCAD Talent Show in Hazel Park (Saturday night) doing what he calls “The Other Wedding Dance.” I apologize for how jumpy the recording is. I didn’t do a very good job recording, but you’ll still enjoy it.

Click on the picture play the video.

After the show was over we stuck around and helped clean up a bit. Here is a video our friend Gina took of Jeff popping balloons at the end of the night. hee hee
