My First Real Website Job

August 31, 2006

I just wanted to share this website with you all. It was my first real website job. What do you think? It’s not the best but it’s a start right?! I would just love to do websites for a living, but I still have so much to learn. Maybe one day…

BTW- Let me know if you have any problems with specific browers. I found issues with some versions of Explorer for example, but it was fine in Firefox and Safari as far as I’ve seen.

Also, just a heads up, it takes a few moments to load, but should be fine once it is cached.

It’s a Firefox plug-in where you can organize and share photos, documents, presentations, whatever, with your friends and family. Just sign in drop and share! If your friends aren’t online when you share the photos or documents, they will see the files there waiting next time they sign in.

Andrea

August 28, 2006

I was looking through my Flickr pics when I came across this pic of my sister Andrea and our dad. I just love it so much:) If only that blurry finger or whatever wasn’t in the lower right corner.

*Update* I accidentally deleted this photo on my Flickr site:(…sorry! At least there is a copy…somewhere.

Here she is as an adult, again with our dad (well his legs anyway..and most likely wearing a U of M cap on his head too) Ha!

I really need to go through some old family photos at my mom’s house one of these days. I don’t have ANY photos of me as a baby (uhh hmm…mom…perhaps a mother daughter project or birthday present for me?)

How bout the one where I was lying in a puddle of my own drool? Can I at least have that one?

So did any of you happen to hear or read about this the other day? Well….after looking here I saw I was one of the lucky few who have a bad battery in my 12-inch iBook G4. Woo hoo!! So as I type this….the battery in my computer could overheat and who knows…..maybe explode. It does feel like it is getting awfully hot. In fact, lately I’ve noticed whenever I plug in my adapter it gets REALLY freakin’ hot as well as my computer. I thought it was odd. I always immediately unplugged it when I noticed it was happening, scared my computer would fry out or the adapter would catch on fire. If it weren’t for the square adapter being so….. sqaure, I think I could actually kurl my hair with it. It gets that hot! (as well as my computer of course) P.S- I know that word I just spelled with a “k” is actually spelled with a “c”, but I kept getting an Apache error from my server when I used the “c” version in that sentence for some reason. I know there is a “cURL” extension (total nerd stuff I know), but I think the server was getting confused when I used the word “curl” in that sentence. Odd I know. *sigh* Typical.

So as you can tell….. I should totally play the lottery.

On a positive note, Jeff and I bought this today (we’ll each have our own head just so you know…no sharing toothbrushes over here…that would just be growdee). Ever since Jeff went to the dentist he’s on this healthy teeth kick. Which is good and fine with me, seeing that I have to kiss him and all. He’s already had one root canal and today a cavity filling. I plan on going to the dentist on the 8th of September. I can’t wait to hear all about the cavity on my lower left side. Everytime I eat or drink something hot or cold I get this pain that shoots all the way down to the nerve. I just KNOW I have a cavity . Woo hoo! I’m such a lucky girl these days. Am I not?

So if that video left you wanting more toothbrush porn you can click here to read all about the features. oooohhhh ahhhhhhhhh. Can you believe we’re going to have a toothbrush that has a smart chip in it? Seriously. Who needs a smart chip in a toothbrush? Well…. Jeff and I do obviously.

True nerds over here as you can see.

*Update* If you think the toothbrush video is over the top, I dare you to check out our toilet. Everything in our house essentially has its own video online.

No pain no gain!
Okay, as if NOT winning the rubber ducky contest wasn’t bad enough, today I found out the gym is closed until school starts again. The one day I was actually going to make it up to the gym. I had my workout outfit on (striped leotard, headband, wristbands, and leg warmers) and everything, well…except for my socks & shoes. So close. Soooooo close. Then, later in the evening after Autumn cancelled our walk (just had to squeeze that in for ya Autumn) I wanted to watch television (like I have pretty much been doing all the time since school let out…cause I CAN) but it won’t turn on. It’s just all of a sudden broken AGAIN. I guess I watched the shanizzle out of it. Or perhaps it’s just f*^&%bleep^*0()(**&*&^bleep^^&* with me like last time when it was out for a couple days. In which case I’ll be ready. I’ll be ready….

So now I’m going to have to resort to watching the DVD that I brought home over a week ago (yeah it’s overdue, what’s it to ya?!), Adaptation, on my laptop. Jeez, I know……can you even believe it?! It’s seriously like getting worse and worse every day for me. *Sigh* *Flips hair*

Rubber Ducky Race

August 21, 2006

Rubber Duckies

We attended Ypsilanti’s Heritage Festival Sunday evening. We made it just in time for the annual Rubber Ducky Race. We put our bets on one of the lil’ buddies with hopes of winning, but of course didn’t. Ours was probably one of the two that got stuck in the seaweed in the middle of the Huron River. Typical. The #1 prize was free airfare and a cruise for two. It’s probably for the best seeing that I won’t be going on vacation anytime soon. Wah wah….*said Debbie Downer style*

We also played BINGO and I ALMOST won but didn’t quite.

So again….. wah wah

I’ve posted some new pics on Flickr. Click here to see em’.

Visitors

August 20, 2006

My friend Jessica and her b-friend Sean came out to our side of town. Sean was visiting her from New York and had never been to the “D”. We took them to Hamtramck Disneyland and then around Detroit eventually settling into dinner at Traffic Jam. We were going to eat at Slow’s, but as usual, there was an extensive waiting period of over an hour. “Umm…no thanks!”

Aren’t they cute? Anyone out there a fan of that Queer Eye for the Straight Guy show? Well……Sean just happens to be one of the guys the fab five made over back in 2004. Don’t ask me the details, cause I never really watch the show. It sure was fun hearing a little bit about the fab five though. :) Sure wish they would come and give me a makeover. Lord knows I need one. Whew!

Time Out

August 19, 2006

Lately, it is as if everyone in my department at work is taking time off to go enjoy themselves before the summer is over. I could be wrong, but I think I am going to be one of the only people in my department for the next three weeks or so. Also, I know of some friends who are lucky enough to be taking time off too (Ann). Then there is my dad who just got back from Poland. I can’t forget one of my Flickr contacts whose life I follow in pictures. She and her family have been up north enjoying life on the lake for like the last week. Believe me, I check everyday to see if they are back just so I can see what northern Michigan is looking like these days. I just want to pretend I can smell the fresh air and the campfires. As you can tell, I just REALLY want to get the hell outta dodge for a while. I’m not anticipating being in school again in the fall. I know once I start I’ll be fine, but sometimes a person just needs to NOT have obligations for a while. Wouldn’t it be nice to not have deadlines and due dates for a little while. *answers self….”why yes! Yes it would Sarah!* I will finally get vacation/personal time next month (after 6 months of waiting), however I just don’t see how I will be able to use any of it when in school unless it is for studying :( The timing is never going to be right. Don’t tell me Thanksgiving and Christmas either. You know that is never a vacation. Errr…..I wish I was a kid again. At least summer was enjoyable at that age.

PS. You know you need a vacation when you start answering your own questions out loud.

Just shoot me.

Hamtramck Disneyland

August 16, 2006

I meant to mention this yesterday since it is from yesterday, but Model D has a little article on “unofficial art” and includes Hamtramck Disneyland. I keep forgetting about Hamtramck Disneyland despite the fact that I live in Hamtramck and convinced channel 7 (when I interned there), that they should do a story on it. They had no idea (big surprise) it existed and I just remember doing a ton of online research so I could show producers the pictures. They were impressed so they had Joe Mazan and I go there to interview the artist. Once we arrived, Dmytro Szylak and his wife invited us in. We chit chatted, they showed us some artifacts (I don’t recall what), and then we went outside to the back to do our interview. It was VERY difficult understanding what Dmytro said I must say. He was the friendliest of men though. His wife did a lot of translating what we didn’t understand.

After getting some video footage we gathered up our things and made it back to the station. I was super excited that they would air the story and proud that I got to be a part of the initial idea for it. However, I believe there was a car accident or some other tragic event that night. They didn’t air the story and I was letdown like I was with the internship itself (don’t even get me started). I don’t believe they ever aired the story and it’s too bad. In the television news business, seems bad news comes first. Sadly.

Hamtramck Disneyland is a gem. Truly something you won’t find anywhere else in Detroit. I hope some of you come visit in the future!
