This made me smile

February 23, 2006

I found something warm and fuzzy.

I posted about this site before, but they’ve since changed it(updated it). It’s made me smile on a day I have felt so down. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this Ikea site. So amazing!!! I want to reach out and touch all of the people. I want to jump into all of the scenes and join in:)

Bad luck

February 23, 2006

I had hoped to share more videos with you shortly, especially this amusing one Jeff and I shot at the Polish Hamtramck parade last year. However, there was an accident last night. Jeff has been in the process of clearing off his computer and backing it up on an external hardrive because he’s about to install OS X Tiger on it. He usually has everything not only on his external drive but on his computer (good safe practice). Well, in this case…he had everything on just the external drive and was about to load it all in again. Well,it was sitting on our old van seat couch and we were on our other counch which sits perpendicular to it looking at pictures. I grabbed for the computer to pull it onto my lap, not knowing the external drive was connected, and the drive fell to the floor. Our hard wood floor. Jeff freaked. I freaked. The neighbors probably freaked if they heard us freaking. Jeff immediately looked into it and only three of four partitions were showing up. The one we were working off was not there anymore (photos, videos, his portfolio…five years of images basically). Jeff immediately shut everything down and the freaking out continued. He can’t turn the drive on to access anything because it could further damage the platters inside. He can’t access recent e-mails, his website (he was planning on updating), or even certain software, etc. I feel sooooo terrible because I am the one who knocked it off the couch. Now Jeff has to send it in to some data recovery company and see if they can extract the information safely, or at all. It will cost a lot of $$$ too:( I feel sooooooo sad about this. It happened in the last hour of his birthday. What an unfortunate way to end your birthday. Earlier in the week he lost information on his Jump drive too. He just got it a month ago and now he has to send it back to the company to extract the information and replace it for him. In the meantime he lost his Solidworks project he was working on and now this.

We’re so sad over here you guys:(

Me snowboarding

February 23, 2006

I’m trying something new today. Video! This is me snowboarding last month at Blue Mountain Canada. Jeff followed behind me recording with our little Canon camera. You’ll see how I almost knock a little girl over near the end (poor thing):) The video is a bit choppy but you get the gist of my snowboarding abilities right?

Sto Lat!

February 22, 2006

Happy 33rd Birthday to Jeff!!!

Coffee and you. The first two things I want to grab in the morning.

Speaking of Jeff, I should tell you he will be performing at Sync Fest 2006 at University of Michigan on March 9th (as well as my friend Brian Schorn). The following day (10th) our friend Jason (Bubblegone) and Joe (Verzerren) will be performing. Click here for more details. Right now the site doesn’t tell you what time Jeff or Brian perfoms on the 9th, but hopefully soon. Perhaps well see some of you there:)

Leap-A

February 20, 2006

Well…..it’s kinda old news but still relevant I suppose. A Mac trojan horse called Leap-A has been found. Apparently it is harmless, but Mac users should still be aware. Most viruses are made to attack Windows users (which would explain why they have to have so much anti-virus software) so this comes as a HUGE surprise. Very rare. Most likely it was made by someone who just wanted to see if they could do it, not so much to steal information and cause major havoc like most do for PCs.

Here it is…….

February 17, 2006

I was at work all day and you have no idea how hard it was not being able to tell you all my exciting news.
Ann, you guessed right…….

I got the internship!!!

I was waiting to hear back from them because they said there would be another round of interviews between the two most qualified individuals. Well, I interviewed last Friday and never got that call, until today. Instead of getting a call I was invited to speak with the City Librarian as well as my boss’s boss. I thought at first I was in some kind of trouble, although I couldn’t think of any reason why. Then I thought the opposite because we were joking and laughing and that wouldn’t happen if someone was in trouble. So then I became convinced they were just trying to catch me off guard by interviewing me before they made the final decision. They did……. but then they actually offered me the job. If you could only imagine my face as I was taken aback. I almost wanted to utter the words “Come again. I don’t think I heard you correctly.” I just sat there in silence savoring in the moment before responding. Of course nothing is official yet. I still need to sign the contract:) But the wheels are in motion……….

You all have no idea what this means. I am sooooo excited about this opportunity. I’ll be very busy, but it will definitely be well worth it.

My poor blog will most likely suffer but you’ll understand right? I’m sure you won’t miss my ramblings all that much now will you?:) I’ll try my best to keep it as updated as possible though. Grammar mistakes included.

Knitting = Stress Relief

February 16, 2006

Nothing relieves stress from studying like knitting.

I went up to “The Knitting Room” earlier today for the first time to shop for some yarn and circular needles for a top secret project. I would have went somewhere closer such as “City Knits” in Detroit’s Fisher building, but my last experience (which was my first) was not so good that I am eager to go back. I found the sales associates to be VERY rude and stand-offish. They seemed like they didn’t want to help patrons, especially beginning knitters such as myself. You would think they would want to pull patrons in and make their experience memorable enough that they would want to come back. Obviously that is not how they think. So I took my business elsewhere. All the way to Birmingham. Talk about great customer service, I was asked multiple times if I needed assistance and everyone had a smile on their face. I felt so welcome and at ease in their yarn store. In fact, one of the sales associates even showed me how to wind up my own skein of yarn should they ever be so busy they can not do it for me. I can’t praise them enough!! You must go if you knit. Ann, my knitting buddy also told me about a place in Grosse Point that I might check out next. It would be a lot closer too. However, I will continue stopping into “The Knitting Room” every once in a while for future yarn:)

Tonight I met up with my knitting friend Ann for a session of knitting. I can’t tell you what we are knitting because mine is a surprise and I don’t want to ruin it. You’ll see it when it’s done. Whenever that will be:)

Here is what I have done so far. As you can see, it is not much. It is a beginning though. It took me over an hour just to cast on close to 100 stitches. I’m still learning how to talk and knit at the same time. Thank’s to Ann for listening to me babble on about random topics. No, really! I forgot to mention to all of you the fact that I accidentally took someone else’s medium sized soy latte and that I was also given the small coffee drink (caramel coffee something or other) I actually ordered. So I did what any normal (actually crazy) person would do and drank them both. I basically became a podcast without the ipod, music, or computer (does that make sense?). I was all talk radio with one audience member. Poor Ann. I’m not usually that loquacious (okay, maybe I am a little bit) but I really feel the coffee contributed to a large portion of my chatter. It seemed to magnify it 10x more.

It was really good for my studying though (when Ann left and I had noone left to talk to except myself….which I DID NOT do by the way). Here you see only one of my drinks. The other one might have been in my hand.

The coffee high is finally starting to taper off. This blog entry really helped use up some of the extra energy. Thank goodness cause I need to go to sleep at some point tonight or ummm this morning I should say….Zzzzzzzzzzz

Ask and you will get

February 15, 2006

My friend Heather sent me a link to this CNN article about Myspace being “the place to be”. Not only because it is about Myspace.com but because our old friend/roomate(1997) Greg (guy with the beard) is featured in the online piece. Greg plays in the band “Great Lakes Myth Society” which used to be called The Original Brothers and Sisters of Love (TOBASOL). I last saw Greg a year ago when he was living with Heather. It’s good to hear he’s doing so well and that Myspace really does have “a point”. Who would have thought my question would be answered so thoroughly and promptly:) Thanks Heather!

Hoops and Yoyo

February 14, 2006

These two are my all time favorite greeting card buddies. They say things the way I would say them in real life!!! Ohh yeah.

I just can’t get over how cute they are. I want THEM for Valentine’s day.
