Interview
October 28, 2005
I forgot to mention I applied for a part-time computer assistant job at the same library. I just got a call for an interview. Yay! I am still going to volunteer and work for my current employer though. Wish me luck! The interview is scheduled for next Tuesday. Fingers crossed.
Library volunteer
October 26, 2005
Since I have so much free time these days (my part-time job isn’t keeping me busy enough & I haven’t started knitting yet), I have decided to volunteer at a certain Public Library. I met with the library coordinator in support services as well as the girl in charge of volunteers earlier today. I know the work is going to be monotonous and tedious but I am looking forward to meeting new people and gaining hands on experience in a library. I can’t express the excitement I felt walking into the tech services room where I will be processing and labeling books, etc. It was like walking into a candy store. I found out the girl in charge of volunteers lives here in Hamtramck as well. So I may have made a new friend to talk about librarianship with and who lives close by. I think it’s hilarious because I meet so many people who live here in Hamtramck but I never see any of them anywhere in town. Of course Jeff and I are recluses so that may explain it.
Anyway. I also borrowed 5 books from the library. One of them IS a knitting book. The rest; “Reunion” , “Eleanor Rigby” , “Revolting Librarians Redux”, and “Griffin and Sabine”. I actually listened to “Griffin and Sabine” on audio tape years ago and loved it. I just wanted to check this book out because I love the graphic design of the book. Very clever and cute. I would have checked the whole trilogy out, but I figured I already had enough books in my arms to keep me busy for a couple weeks at least.
Insight Game
October 19, 2005
Found this vintage game last weekend at my grandpa’s house. Click on the picture for more information, I don’t want to type the same thing out twice.
This game seems like it could be fun. Could trigger some good conversation with friends. It actually says in the directions “Allow any discussion that arises…and stand back….there may be some fireworks!”

Fall Day

We enjoyed a nice fall walk at my grandpa’s over the weekend. Click on the picture for more details.
Have yet to go to an apple orchard and pumpkin patch.
Soon. very soon.
Nerd Alert!
October 14, 2005
I ordered “The Librarians Career Guidebook” earlier in the month and it finally arrived today! I’m soooo excited. I know, I know, you’re probably thinking I’m a pretty big dork right about now. That’s okay.
This book has over 60 chapters covering anything and everything associated with librarianship. My only regret is that I didn’t get it sooner. I briefly read a few chapters and am already anticipating the rest. Only thing is, we are going out for the evening and I have to wait until tomorrow to get back to it. Bummer cause I just want to sit down with some tea and learn, learn, learn!!
What’s new with Apple?
October 12, 2005
Steve Jobs has revealed the new ipod today on a special event webcast. I’ll get one one of these days. I’d like to get a new computer first. I’m going to wait until next year when Steve reveals the new Intel based Macs. I just LOVE Macs. I grew up on my mom’s mac back in the 80’s playing Dark Castle and Deja Vu. Ahhh…the fond memories. It’s already on display at Greenfield Villiage as a piece of ancient history. Crazy how time flies.
Keep em’ coming Steve!
Woman has 16th child
October 12, 2005
Whoa! I like kids but I could never have 16! Why oh why would anyone need to have that many kids? I come from a family of 6 kids and my father and mother comes from families larger than 6 themselves. But 16! Plus there may be more along the way! What! How do these people afford to feed their children? Do they make their own clothes? So many questions. Maybe the lady has an addiction. Childbirth addiction anonymous needs to be established perhaps.
Frecs and Specs
October 9, 2005
Jeff and I have a long wanted to turn certain idiosynchracies of our relationship or personalities into a cartoon. We crack one another up all the time. Often we get ideas for our cartoon but never write them down. A year ago Jeff surprised me with Frecs and Specs. This was suppose to be the launchpad for our cartoon series, but as you can see there is nothing more than an introduction available (stay on the site long enough you will see our eyes blink). Now I’m wondering if I should turn it into a blog or attempt the animation series. Only thing is, I would have to figure out how to use Flash more in depth etc. What to do, what to do. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
NaNoWriMo is coming

Is it just me or do we all think we have had enough interesting experiences to write a novel or two? Maybe you have had ideas but nothing to kickstart the actual writing process. Well, here is your chance. November is National Novel writing month. The idea is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30. Don’t worry about the substance just write until you reach that 50,000 word goal and you have finger blisters. It’s all about giving yourself permission to write without the worry of making mistakes or sense. In college I had an art instructor who would not allow erasers in the classroom. He said he would throw it out the window if he caught anyone using one on their drawings. At first I hated it. In fact, I tried to get away with using one once but he caught me and immediately threw it out the two story window behind me. I thought this instructor’s rule was the stupidest thing ever. I thought “How can I make my drawings look good without erasing the mistakes?” I soon learned that his rule was meant to teach us about intention. If we couldn’t erase a line we drew then it would make us think that much more about the lines we made in the future. The quality of the drawings would therefore improve with each intentional line drawn. The eraser was a crutch in this art instructor’s eyes. It allowed people to be clumsy with what they created and I feel it is the same with writing. We must learn to write without the constant editing in order to improve. Each word is the line that cannot be erased. It is all about intention. While I don’t practice what I preach in this blog (I’m paranoid about how much I reveal and so on), I am considering taking on this feat of novel writing. Even if I don’t finish at least I wrote without barriers. If anyone else is interested just sign up at the above link.
